King George VI (1895–1952) was the King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth from 1936 until his death. He unexpectedly ascended the throne following the abdication of his brother, Edward VIII, and became a symbol of British resilience and courage during World War II. Despite suffering from a severe stammer and being naturally shy, he overcame these challenges to lead his nation through its darkest hours, famously remaining at Buckingham Palace with his family during the Blitz. His reign oversaw the transformation of the British Empire into the Commonwealth of Nations, including the independence of India and Pakistan. Today, he is often remembered as a steady and dutiful monarch who restored the prestige of the monarchy, and as the father of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The stamp is overprinted "AL BUSAID 1363" in Arabic script.
