Voyage of Omani sailship 'Sultanah' to USA
Issued in 1986, this stamp commemorates the historic voyage of the Omani sailing ship Sultanah, which sailed from Muscat to the United States in 1840 as part of Oman's first diplomatic mission to America. Under the reign of Sultan Said bin Sultan, the Sultanah carried Oman's envoy to the United States, arriving in New York and establishing one of the earliest formal diplomatic and commercial relationships between an Arab state and the United States. By issuing this commemorative stamp, the Sultanate of Oman celebrated an important milestone in its maritime and diplomatic history. The issue highlighted Oman's long tradition of seafaring and international trade, while recognizing the Sultanah voyage as a symbol of friendship, cultural exchange, and peaceful relations between Oman and the United States.
