This stamp commemorates the 7th Arabian Gulf Cup Football Tournament (دورة كأس الخليج العربي السابعة لكرة القدم), which was hosted in Muscat, Oman, from March 9 to March 26, 1984. The Arabian Gulf Cup, established in 1970, is the premier biennial regional football competition bringing together national teams from the Gulf region including Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Hosting the 1984 tournament was a landmark event for the Sultanate of Oman, marking the first time the country hosted the prestigious regional sporting event. The competition was held at the newly constructed Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat, symbolizing the modernization and expansion of Oman's athletic infrastructure under Sultan Qaboos bin Said. Iraq ultimately won the 1984 title after a dramatic final match against Qatar, but for Oman, hosting the tournament served as a powerful showcase of regional unity, national hospitality, and sports development.
