National Day 1985
This stamp commemorates the Development of Telecommunications in the Sultanate of Oman, issued on the occasion of the country's 14th National Day in 1984. Following Sultan Qaboos bin Said’s accession in 1970, Oman underwent rapid modernization, transforming from an isolated nation with virtually no modern infrastructure into a connected state. Telecommunications were pivotal to this Renaissance (Al-Nahda), enabling centralized administration, economic diversification, and seamless connectivity across the country's rugged geography.
The event commemorated on this issue marks the major milestones achieved in building Oman's national communications network by 1985. Through state initiatives led by General Telecommunications Organization (GTO), Oman established microwave link backbones, satellite earth stations, and digital switching centers connecting Muscat to remote regions like Dhofar and Musandam.
